This weekend’s second round of the VLN championship marks the final opportunity for Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus to prepare itself for the unique demands of the world’s toughest race: the Nurburgring 24 Hours.
Entered for the second round of the VLN championship are the two SCG003Cs that will also compete at the 24 Hours: Macchinauno and Macchinadue. The crew of Macchinauno will consist of Jeroen Bleekemolen, Manuel Lauck and Franck Mailleux. At the wheel of Macchinadue will be Thomas Mutsch, Andreas Simonsen and Jeff Westphal. Alternating between the two cars will be Felipe Laser, with the exact run plan still to be decided.
The two SCG003Cs will be joined at the Nurburgring 24 Hours by the P4/5C MkIII, which will be driven by a celebrity line-up that includes Evo journalist Jethro Bovingdon and Top Gear presenter Chris Harris. However, the P4/5C will not be making an appearance at VLN2, as it is currently being re-prepared for the 24 Hours: a race where nothing can be left to chance.
As a result, Macchinauno and Macchinadue will appear in their definitive Nurburgring 24 Hours specification this weekend, with no further modifications planned until after the big event. The objective for this weekend is simply to validate the settings and modifications that have been selected for the 24 Hours, while conserving the cars as much as possible.
With the SCG003C already having established its performance, showing top-six race pace thanks to its sports car looks twinned with LMP2 levels of downforce, the accent will be on reliability and gathering representative data for the long race weekend ahead.
The four-hour race takes place from 12:00-16:00 on Saturday 30 April, with qualifying in the morning from 08:30-10:00.
As always, brand creator Jim Glickenhaus and car owner Chris Ruud will be on the pit wall to mastermind the strategy and preparations, flanked by programme director Paolo Garella, whose MAT (Manifattura Automobili Torino) firm was responsible for the design and build of the stunning cars, which are as easy to drive as they are quick.
Jim Glickenhaus said: “As we approach the famous N24, I’m hopeful that the massive amount of work that our team has done over the last year will pay off nicely. I look forward to a great VLN2 and an even better N24.”
Chris Ruud added: “I’m really looking forward now to the culmination of our efforts for the Nurburgring 24 Hours at the end of May. Before then, we obviously have this weekend’s race, where the team has worked tirelessly to get two cars ready for the start.”
Paolo Garella concluded: “This final race before the Nurburgring 24 Hours will mark an important part of our preparations for the event. The two SCG003Cs are always a highlight of every race they contest, and we’ve been pleased to see them fighting at the front. On this occasion, our aim is simply to validate some of the settings we have established, so we will just be aiming to get to the finish with plenty of data that will be important for the 24 Hours.”
